What You Will Need To Get Started

  • A Windows or Mac based personal computer
  • An Apple TV 2 – Model MC572LL/A (Must be Apple TV 2, Apple TV 3 will not work)
  • Seas0nPass (Needed to Jailbreak the Apple TV 2)
  • Nito Installer (Used to install XBMC 12.2 frodo on the Apple TV 2)
  • A Micro USB Cable (Can’t be longer than a meter)
  • A little bit of patience

Getting Your Apple TV 2

We are assuming for the sake of this project that you own a personal computer, that said we did say it would cost roughly $200. You are going to need the two hundred dollars to get a second generation Apple TV (Apple TV 2). Apple no longer sells these as they now have a third generation Apple TV available. To date, there is no hack available for us to customize the Apple TV 3. You can get an Apple TV 2 for somewhere between $150-$200 on ebay. The Apple TV 2 can be bought as is and not jailbroken. There is no reason to spend the extra money and buy an Apple TV 2 that is already jailbroken because chances are, we will have to jailbreak it again to get the most up to date version of Xbox Media Console (XBMC) running our Apple. TV 2. The Apple TV 2 outputs 720P video, don’t buy the Apple TV if it says it supports 1080P video – this is the Apple TV 3.
