Welcome to Part Two of our Home Theater Series – In this guide, we will show you how to install XBMC on your Apple TV 2 using aTVFlash (Black). aTVFlash (Black) is an add-on to the Apple TV 2 dashboard software that allows you make firmware backups of your Apple TV as well as install a bunch of really cool other add-ons like nitoTV and XBMC. The aTVFlash (Black) add-on will run you $29 and is well worth it because it allows you to install many other great add-ons, including a browser, completely free and with two clicks of the remote. The following is a step by step guide on how to install the aTVFlash (Black) add-on followed by the steps to installing XBMC on your Apple TV 2. 1. Jailbreak the Apple TV – See Part One to find out how to jailbreak the Apple TV2
2. Connect the Apple TV your TV like normal (power, HDMI and wifi/ethernet). (If booting for the first time you will need to tether boot if you are running Apple TV 5.3)

Running the installer
Step 1: Buy the aTVFlash (Black) add-on here.
Step 2: Download the latest version of aTV Flash (black) from your account.
Step 3: Mac: Open the DMG and double-click the installer.
Windows: Double-click the downloaded .exe file to extract the files, then locate the installer in the aTV Flash (black) folder (usually found on the Desktop).
Step 3: The installer will copy a few small files to your computer. (these will then be transferred to the Apple TV) – Click “Install”
Step 4: You will then be prompted to select your Apple TV from a drop-down list. Once selected, click “Continue”
Step 5: The files will be transferred to the Apple TV.
Step 6: When complete, the Apple TV will restart automatically for the changes to take effect. (This is a soft reboot, you will not have to re-tether boot your Apple TV 2)
Step 8: After installation all apps and updates can be installed directly on the Apple TV through the Maintenance –> Manage Extras menu.

Note: Unwanted extras can be easily removed by highlighting an item and pressing the right arrow button.
